Daile Theatre
Riga's Daile Theatre is a professional repertory theatre. The biggest and most accessible theatre in Latvia, open to high and low art genres, including classics, musicals, and distinctive art experiments. A modern theatre for the people. For home and the world. A modern stage with a long history.
The theatre aims at an inspiring and creative dialogue with the public, and mutual development. Creativity as a perpetual driving force. Dominance based on a deliberate and accomplished vision.
Its mission stems from a unique historic handicap. The idea for the theatre came from director Eduards Smiļģis and the poet Rainis. The theatre survived through different times and political orders, staging Latvian and world-famous works, as well as modern drama masterpieces, touching different social classes. Over the years many performances have become symbols of the age, spreading discussions and reconsidering values.
The artistic content is enhanced by the building's location and architecture, which was designed by notable Latvian architect Marta Staņa.
