Riga has five methods of public transportation – tram, trolleybus, bus, rail and ship.
Scheme of public transport of Riga can be bought in the Tourist Information Centre in the Blackheads House, in Rātslaukums Square. It costs LVL 1.20, but registering with Foursquere the scheme of public transport is available for special price – LVL 0.55. Public transport in Riga starts running at 5:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 p.m. Public transportation timetables can be found on the "Rigas satiksme" public transport company’s web-site – www.rigassatiksme.lv (Latvian, Russian, English). The web-site also provides information on the price of tickets and where they can be purchased. Even though tickets can be purchased from the driver (LVL 0.70), it is cheaper to purchase an e-ticket at street kiosks and select shops. It is possible to purchase an e-ticks for one ride (LVL 0.50), five rides (LVL 2.50), ten rides (LVL 4.75) and twenty rides (LVL 9). It is also possible to purchase a 24-hour ticket (LVL 1.90), a three-day ticket (LVL 5.70), or a five-day ticket - (LVL 9.50).
An e-ticket can be used on all "Rigas satiksme" buses, trolleys and trams, and is a modern and convenient way to pay for public transportation services in the city.
An e-ticket allows passengers to save time, and you do not need the exact change to purchase one.

The fine for riding public transportation in Riga without a ticket is LVL 5 (EUR 3.50).
It is also possible to get around Riga by rail, which costs LVL 0.50 per ride within city limits. It is possible to see a route map of rail transportation within Riga city limits at www.pv.lv (Latvian, English, Russian), as well as timetables at www.1188.lv (Latvian, English, Russian).
Many people use rail transportation to reach the coastal resort town of Jurmala, which is only several kilometers outside of Riga’s city limits. It must be taken into account that there are several rail stops in Jurmala. The most popular are Lielupe, Bulduri, Dzintari, Majori and Dubulti. A one-way ticket to Jurmala costs about LVL 1.
Starting from 1st of May all summer long till 1st of October everyone will be able to enjoy a trip on a river ship from Jūrmala to Riga and back. If it seems to long, you can also have a 1 hour long journey along river Lielupe. In Riga you will find the river ship near the Old Town, opposite the Riga Castle, 50 meters from the sculpture Big Christopher towards the Stone Bridge.
