Jacob's Square
This square was created in the 17th century; at end-18th century, it was a recreation area. At the edge of the square was a wooden edifice, used as a theatre.
At the beginning of the 19th century Jacob's Square was also called the Little Parade Square as it hosted soldiers' military parades and training. In 1905 a new layout was drawn up by G. Kufalts, later it was improved by A. Zeidaks. In 1905 the Square was renamed Chernishevsky Square, but in 1987 it regained its historical name - Jacob's Square.
