First self-service bike rental in Baltics opened

The national airline "airBaltic" in cooperation with the Jurmala City Council has opened "BalticBike" - the first self-service bike rental in the Baltic states.

"Baltic Bike" rental stations will be available in 11 comfortably accessible locations in Riga and Jurmala - this resort town is only half an hour's drive away from Riga. The stations in Jurmala will be located in Majori and Dubulti.

The opening of the rental stations in Jurmala is yet another step to fulfill and develop the town's network of bike paths. Well-established bike paths have been already built from Priedaine to Majori, and the older ones are still maintained in working order. A 32-kilometre beach is a wonderful place for cyclists, however, it is necessary to be careful and not to disturb other vacationers.

Jurmala City Council Chairman Romualds Razuks emphasizes: "It is important for Jurmala, as a resort town, to ensure that both - local residents and the town's guests, prefer healthy lifestyle and sports activities. Jurmala positions itself as environmentally friendly, blessed with unique nature and curative natural resources. Jurmala has also been granted status of a healthy town, and therefore the establishment and development of such tourism projects here seems very natural."

"airBaltic" President and CEO Bertolt Flick points out: "Every decent European city has bike rentals. Jurmala's residents and guests will now also have easily accessible and fast means of transportation. "airBaltic" invites tourists from many countries to Latvia, and it is necessary to have tourist-friendly infrastructure and transportation."
