Educational Institutions in Riga

Riga is a welcome destination for international students; young people from all over the world study at the country's largest universities. Latvia has 57 higher education institutions, most of them are located in Riga.

Students can choose various courses of study in 22 spheres. Now among the most popular - commercial studies and administration, as well as social, psychology, IT and humanitarian studies. Latvian medical education is highly rated internationally. The fine arts are also available.

Latvian higher educational system is open to foreign students; universities are involved in international exchange programmes and offer special programmes for students from other countries. According to the figures of 2009/2010, 1'760 international students studied in Latvia.

Latvia has one of the world's highest rates of students in higher education per capita. In 2009/2010, Latvia had 492 students per 10 thousand people and the number is still increasing. Only Finland, the United Kingdom and Canada have similar figures.

Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music
