11th November Embankment

11th+November+Embankment
11th November Embankment stretches along the Daugava River. It is one of the city’s main avenues; however, traffic is suspended here during big festivals and state celebrations, including, Latvia’s Independence Day on November 18 when thousands of people converge here to view impressive fireworks. During Riga Festival, the avenue hosts various events, concerts, and Riga Food Street. At Midsummer’s Night, the area becomes part of Latvia’s countryside, where people celebrate ancient traditions, cheese making, or just enjoy the year’s shortest night.
11th November Embankment has heavy traffic traffic, as it has several traffic lines for public transport, buses, trolleybuses, and trams. From the street vehicles can enter Old Town Riga through Strēlnieku Square, approach Central Market and several key institutions. If you are interested in Soviet architecture, you should pay attention to the building of the Artists’ Union, which now hosts several contemporary art organisations. The House of Dannenstern (at 21 Mārstaļu Street; built in the 17th century, it has once been the biggest dwelling house in Riga) is an outstanding example of Baroque. The President’s Castle is also one of the objects easily reachable from 11th November Embankment. It changes into Eksporta Street right after Stone (Akmens) Bridge, when driving towards Riga Harbour, and into 13th January Street, when taking the opposite direction towards the city centre. 11th November Embankment has an exit to Stone Bridge.
