Sigulda – Latvian City of Love

The Latvian resort city of Sigulda, which is deemed to be the Latvian Switzerland, has been entitled the Latvian City of Love, as Latvians have recognised it the second best place for dates beyond Riga.

Throughout the past summer, Latvia's oldest sweet producer "Laima" held a TV competition among Latvian cities/towns, the winner of which would receive the title "The Best and Most Romantic Place for Dates beyond Riga".

Sigulda won the TV vote, and thus a symbolic place for dates - the Laima clock, which is a copy of the clock next to the Freedom Monument in Riga, will be set up on the Sigulda train station square next year.

"Those who participated in the competition proved that values have changed. Happiness is no longer determined by money and power - our formula of happiness is honour and love towards ourselves, other people and our homeland. Thanks to all those who supported Sigulda, revealed their love stories and voted! Sigulda is the City of Love. We plan to erect the 'little brother' of the Laima clock on the Sigulda train station square after the square is renovated," Chairman of Sigulda District Council Uģis Mitrevics said with satisfaction.

The resort city of Sigulda, the perfect place for one of the most beautiful adventures in Latvian nature – the golden autumn – can be reached by an hour-long train journey. More information on the city is available in Latvian, English, Russian, German, Swedish, Estonian and Lithuanian at the website www.sigulda.lv.
