In the second week of February, around 30 artists from Latvia and abroad will gather in Jelgava in order to put their ideas and emotions in ice and to display small and big formations to the jury and visitors. The annual International Ice Sculpture Festival has become a venue for internationally-known sculptors to exchange experience and make new discoveries in creating sculptures from ice and snow. Over 12 years, the festival has become the city's most popular event.
From 12 to 14 February 2011, the entries submitted to the competition, entitled "Around the World", were assessed by 40,000 city residents and guests. During the 14th International Ice Sculpture Festival, you will have an opportunity to follow the creation process of both small and big sculptures. First, the sculptors will make small works for the competition, then they will create several teams to make big sculptures. All that will be openly showcased from February 6 to 10. The festival will also feature some works from snow.
Ice slide, two ice bars, creative workshops, open stage and various musical events are also on the programme! The exposition will be displayed at Jelgava's Victory Park from February 10 to 12 but, in case of good weather, even to the 20th of the month.
