1st Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art

The inaugural edition of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA), titled Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More, runs from 2nd of June until 28th of October 2018. Curated by Katerina Gregos, the biennial takes place at various venues in Riga and Jurmala. Including works by 104 artists (a third of which are from the Baltic countries), the biennial presents a large number of new commissions, 10 outdoor sculptures and ‘site-specific interventions’.

The essence of this project is the identification of these oaks with DNA and dendrochronological methods to confirm the assumption that they are the Baltic oak trees sent to the Netherlands during the flourishing of the Hanseatic time.
