Riga Festival 2018

On the nation's centenary, this year's Riga City Festival will feature the creative legacies of many great Latvians in the context of the country's history and culture. As Riga celebrates its 817th anniversary, one of the more special events to take place will the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Riga Latvian Society: for three whole days Vērmane Park and the Riga Society Building will turn back the pages of history, revealing to festival goers the time more than a century ago when the Riga Latvian Society was established. Cultural and historical facts, theatrical improvisations of great historical figures and open-air performances will allow Rigans and city guests to feel like they were back in the times of mid-19th century Riga.

United Buddy Bears exhibition

Persons visiting Dome Square will be greeted with 149 United Buddy Bears, which symbolizes tolerance between peoples. With such a motto, these two-meter high bears have been travelling the world since they were first exhibited in Berlin in 2002. The bears have already greeted over 40 million persons in 30 cities all over the world.

1st Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art

The inaugural edition of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA), titled Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More, runs from 2nd of June until 28th of October 2018. Curated by Katerina Gregos, the biennial takes place at various venues in Riga and Jurmala. Including works by 104 artists (a third of which are from the Baltic countries), the biennial presents a large number of new commissions, 10 outdoor sculptures and ‘site-specific interventions’.
