To date, RTU has eight faculties: Architecture and Urban Planning, Building and Civil Engineering, Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Electronics and Telecommunications, Power and Electrical Engineering, Engineering Economics, Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, and Transport and Mechanical Engineering. The faculties offer classical higher academic and professional studies traditions; it prepares high-qualified specialists, who are in demand today. RTU provide studies for Latvians and international students; it hosts students from China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Libyan, Nigeria, Russia, Spain, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
The programs taught in English lead to an undergraduate degree (B.Sc.), graduate degree (M. Sc.) and postgraduate degree (PhD) in engineering and social sciences. The undergraduate degree can be reached in three or four years and the graduate degree - in two years, while PhD requires minimum four years of combined course work and research. The studies in English are identical to those in the Latvian language. International students can apply for the following programmes: Aviation Transport (B.Sc., M. Sc.), Business Informatics (M. Sc.), Construction (PhD), Computer Systems (B.Sc., M. Sc., PhD), Computerised Control of Electrical Technologies (B.Sc., M. Sc.), Geomatics (B.Sc.), Information Technology (B.Sc., M. Sc., PhD), Engineering Technology, Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc., M. Sc., PhD), Technical Translation (B.Sc., M. Sc.), Telecommunications (B.Sc., M. Sc.), Entrepreneurship and Management (B.Sc., M. Sc.), and Environmental Science (M. Sc., PhD). RTU's academic year runs from the beginning of September until mid-June. The year is divided into two semesters: the first from September to January; the second February to June.
RTU has taken an active part in the EU youth exchange program Erasmus since 1998. However, you can only participate in an Erasmus exchange if your home institution has a bilateral agreement with Riga Technical University. The Erasmus scheme is open to students who are nationals of the European Union or European Economic Area. Since 2003 Riga Technical University has been offering International Summer Schools for students of various fields. It is a place for exchange of knowledge, ideas, experiences and lifestyle. It is a place for communication between cultures and professions. Every year tutors offer varied and exciting workshop themes. Students work together, having discussion with professionals.
The RTU Foreign Students Department supports international students throughout the enrollment and study process.
