The Latvian Academy of Culture (LAC) was founded in 1990. The studies are aimed at educating professionals in scientific research, literary translation, mass media, as well as working in culture institutions, dealing with international cooperation issues at Latvian and international companies, mastering professional and artistic work in theatres, television and film studios.

LAC offers Bachelor's programmes in Intercultural Relations, Audio-visual Culture, Theatre, Film and TV Dramaturgy, Film Directing, TV and Video Cameramen, Theatre Director, Actor, Choreography of Contemporary Dance, Sociology and Management of Culture, Latvian Folklore and Traditional Culture, the Theory and Management of Culture. Studies can then continue in Master and Doctoral programmes.

LAC is open to international students from universities featuring concluded agreements within the Erasmus framework. Application for the autumn term is open to 1 July, for the spring term - to 1 December. The autumn term of the 2010/2011 Year of Study offered special programmes to Erasmus students in English and German and a selection of courses in Intercultural Relations between Latvia and the UK (in English), Latvia and Germany (in German), Latvia and France (in French), Latvia and Italy (in Italian), Latvia and Denmark (in Danish), Latvia and Sweden (in Swedish), Latvia and Norway (in Norwegian), Latvia and Spain (in Spanish), and Latvia and Poland (in Polish),

Master courses in Media and Culture Management (in German and English) are also available for foreign students. The LAC External Relations and Communication Division is responsible for developing international relations and providing information on exchange programmes for students and teaching staff.
