1st Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art

The inaugural edition of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA), titled Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More, runs from 2nd of June until 28th of October 2018. Curated by Katerina Gregos, the biennial takes place at various venues in Riga and Jurmala. Including works by 104 artists (a third of which are from the Baltic countries), the biennial presents a large number of new commissions, 10 outdoor sculptures and ‘site-specific interventions’.

The smallest swordlily bulb at the end of summer turns into a royal flower and has always been a sign of the first days of autumn. Blossoms can be used in various ways - in flower bouquets, in compositions. By regularly removing the old blossoms, swordlilies stay beautiful for a long time. This year cultivators and collectors of the Latvian Gladiolus and Iris Society will present more than 150 varieties of swordlilies.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with Artūrs Silde's gardeners' club "Tomāts" ("Tomato"), and collectors from Latvia will participate in the exhibition, offering several hundreds of varieties of tomatoes, sweet peppers and chilli peppers. During the exhibition, it will be possible to consult with professionals - Latvia's experienced tomato growers - and purchase seeds.

Exhibition - Baltic Oaks

The exhibition consists of Dutch and Flemish 16th–17th century paintings on wooden panels made of oak. The essence of this project is the identification of these oaks with DNA and dendrochronological methods to confirm the assumption that they are the Baltic oak trees sent to the Netherlands during the flourishing of the Hanseatic time.

Fermentation in jewelry (Gioielli in Fermento) - is an international contemporary jewelry competition in Italy. The source of this project's inspiration has its roots in the wine making culture. As a metaphor for the fermentation process in wine, when a healthy, live element of nature - the grapes - turns into a different form - wine, with a different taste, character and price. Constructing similar thinking about the process of creating contemporary jewelry - turning various materials into a special and industrial form - jewelry. There are four main provisions in this competition: the concept, materials, the type of artistic expression and technique. Winemakers and jewelry artists use their creativity to express and display the provisions in a finished product.
