Riga's artery - the Daugava

Once called "the road from the Vikings to the Greeks", the Daugava River has always been Riga's artery and trade route, dividing the city into two parts. The river bridges are now everyday routes for local people: the splendid Akmens Bridge, the high-reaching Vanšu Bridge, the modern Salu Bridge, the sunny Dienvidu Bridge and the brightly lit-up Railway Bridge. During the summer season, the Daugava becomes more lively thanks to the numerous ferries, steamers, canoes and yachts.
