Riga Festival's gala concert "Master. Song. Legend" will see performances by multiple choirs, meetings between urban residents and people from rural areas, composers and musicians - it will be one of the key events of the Riga Festival, dedicated to the 810th anniversary of the city.
The festival's gala concert "Master. Song. Legend" will be a monumental happening, with the songs performed at the concert uniting choirs and the masters - conductors and composers, in a nod to Latvian Song and Dance Festivals, which have been taking place in Riga since 1873.
During the concert, songs from the classic Song Festival repertoire will be performed as well as new choral compositions. The concert's programme has been prepared by conductors in tandem with composers: Valts Pūce and Mārtiņs Klišāns, Jānis Lūsēns and Andris Veismanis, Juris Kulakovs and Ivars Cinkuss, Arturs Maskats and Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, Uldis Marhilēvičs and Ints Teterovskis, Uģis Prauliņš and Agita Ikauniece, Zigmars Liepiņš and Romāns Vanags, Mārtiņš Brauns and Sigvards Kļava, Imants Kalniņš and Aira Birziņa.
The gala concert's programme includes works by Pēteris Barisons, Emīls Dārziņš, Jāzeps Vītols and Raimonds Pauls, the concert's chief conductors: Arvīds Platpers, Edgars Račevskis, Jānis Zirnis and Haralds Bārzdiņš. Also during the concert, maestros Imants and Vido Kokars will be congratulated on their 90th anniversary; both will participate in the concert as chief conductors.
