Exhibition "Bicycles On Riga Streets" is a display of bicycles of all styles and shapes, cycling gear and accessories, placards, medals, diplomas, and much more. In Riga, bicycle has always been used for work, recreation and sports ever since its invention. The exhibition also tells about the very first bicycles in Riga in the second half of the 19th century.
2011 marks the 125th anniversary since the establishment of the first cycling association in Riga.
Kids and adults alike will be impressed by the history of bicycle manufacture in Latvia, starting from Aleksandrs Leitners (1864–1923) and Gustavs Ērenpreiss (1891–1956) to their present followers - the attempts by Toms Ērenpreiss and his team to restore bicycles from the 1920s and 1930s. And not just to restore, but also to promote the popularity and increase the ranks of members of the Club of Latvia's Antique Bicycles, which was founded to research the history of Latvian bicycles and to promote the popularity of cycling.
The exhibition informs about the traditions of cycling at the end of the 19th century and the current cycling trends, including freakbikes that impress and amaze by their unusual and ingenious construction. The exhibition also tells about bicycle polo, bicycle messengers and others to whom a bicycle is an integral part of their job.
Part of the exhibition deals with the sport of cycling and the key cycling events - European and world championships and the Olympic Games, the exhibition it also informs about professional Latvian cyclists as well as participants in the Unity Race.
