The motto of the Autumn Chamber Music Festival is tête-à-tête or "eye to eye", emphasising the uniquely intimate chamber musicianship atmosphere and the special dialogue that takes place between the audience and musicians. For several years now the festival has been held under the patronage of the world famous Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, whose music will be performed in several concerts of the festival.
The festival in Riga is proud to present a new chamber orchestra opus that will make its Latvia premiere at the festival: Epiphany by Vasks, dedicated his close friend, Finnish orchestra conductor Juha Kangas.
Another premiere at the festival is Juris Karlsons' Sonata No. 3 for piano, inspired by the extremes of modern global reality.
A special event during the festival will be a concert by the talented and charismatic brothers, saxophonist Oskars and pianist Raimonds Petrauskis, presenting their latest CD MIA (at the House of the Blackheads on October 4), and the programme Futurismus and Modernism in Spīķeri, where the music of the 20th and 21st centuries will be joined by video art performance (Spīķeri Concert Hall, September 21).
The chamber music dialogue will also introduce the greatest musicians living in Latvia as well as talented musicians who have studied and now pursue their careers at the major European music centres – pianist Reinis Zariņš who has just graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in London, pianist Diāna Ketlere together with quartet Raro from Great Britain, and the young pianist Rūdolfs Vanks who has studied in Cologne.
Celebrating the International Music Day on October 1, the festival organisers, Latvijas Koncerti will hold a Chamber Music day at Spīķeri Concert Hall. From 12 noon, when the Music Gnome will meet with the smallest concert-goers, up to the midnight the audiences will have a n opportunity to meet Latvian National Opera singers and musicians performing all kinds of music – from academic music to the bohemian Schubertiade, flaming hot tango rhythms and jazz.
Tickets to the concerts are available from Biļešu paradīze outlets, one ticket costs LVL 5 to LVL 15. For the International Music Day on October 1, the tickets will cost LVL 2 per concert.
