Several important Baltic and Nordic design exhibitions will be held in Riga this year as part of the festival Design.Future 2011, the Design Days will, as usual, be ubiquitous in the city's shop windows, design offices and schools, the European Design Day will be marked on October 1, featuring seminars, an international conference on design, creative workshops, and more.
The 3rd Riga International Young Designers Biennial will be presented at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, whereas Riga Art Space will house a number of events in a variety of design fields.
The main Nordic-Baltic design exhibition "Sixteen Steps Closer" will present 16 different innovative ideas created by architectural, industrial, fashion and graphic designers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia specifically for this exhibition. All the works will be dedicated to one theme - the future of the Baltic Sea.
The programme of the Nordic-Balgtic design events will also include many other events: opening of the famous Finnish brand Marimekko travelling exhibition, seminar for Nordic and Baltic computer game developers, PechaKucha Night featuring presentations of the hottest design trends, seminars, lectures, workshops and performances manifesting the idea of sustainable design.
The international Baltic furniture and interior design fair "Baltic Furniture 2011", due October 6 to October 9 in Ķīpsalā, will also feature the "Annual Design Award 2011" competition - the most prestigious evaluation of design works in Latvia.
