In 2012, the marathon's internationally certified course, with its start and finish on the 11th November Embankment, will remain unchanged. The participants of all distances will have the chance to cross the Vansu Bridge and enjoy Riga's most beautiful sights. The marathon and half-marathon runners will also be able to cross the River Daugava over the Southern Bridge. The participants will be offered four distances - marathon (42.195 kilometres), half-marathon (21.0975 kilometres), 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre runs. The registration will last until May 19, 2012. In order to sign up for the marathon, please visit the official home page www.nordearigasmaratons.lv or Nordea banka's branches throughout Latvia.
The best time to register is until December 31, 2011, when the entry fee costs less. The marathon's organizers traditionally ensure free registration to the participants who won the first three places in all age groups in the previous year, who are born before May 20, 1947, and to those loyal runners, who took part in the previous 21 Riga marathons.
Last year, Nordea Riga Marathon gathered 16,350 participants, including more than 1,600 foreign runners from 45 countries, and gained wide recognition in Europe. It is expected that, in 2012, the number of foreign participants will reach 2,000. The marathon has been held in Riga since 1991. In 2007, it officially became the Nordea Riga Marathon.
