Sigulda Jazz 2012

Sigulda+Jazz+2012
The second international jazz festival will open the season of outdoor music festivals in Latvia this year. This event will not offer academically challenging music that belongs to concert halls and by which the definition of jazz is usually associated.

It is not without a reason that the festival motto has been borrowed using the smart words of James Blood Ulmer – “Jazz Is The Teacher, Funk Is The Preacher”.

All day long, until midnight, the Sigulda castle open-air stage will feature smooth jazz, funk and big band music.

The festival will be enriched by a number of outstanding and promising home-grown artists, as well as guest musicians from abroad and unique cooperation projects between Latvian and foreign musicians formed specially for this event.

At the same time, the Jazz cinema will be showing documentaries about jazz history and development. The festival will offer several master classes. Also, a photo exhibition dedicated to the Latvian jazz, “Epson Roots and Fruits”, will be opened.

There will be cafés and record shops. At the closing, there will be the A train going to Riga (the name derives from Take the A Train by Duke Ellington), where passengers will be entertained by improvisations played by jazz musicians.
