Key to Riga forged during 810th anniversary of the city displayed at entrance to Town Hall building

LETA
The new Key to Riga, forged during the city's recent 810th anniversary, has been placed on a pedestal at the Town Hall building for every Rigan and guest of the city to see.

Exhibition "How the Key to Riga Was Made" has also been opened in the Riga City Council's (Town Hall) lobby on the first floor. Ahead of the 810th anniversary of Riga, a large chest was placed at the Town Hall Square, where any person could leave his or her keys that were later molten and used for forging the new city key.

August 21, all the donated keys were taken to the Daugava Embankment where the new city key was forged for an entire day by blacksmith Kārlis Alainis and his assistants. The new Key was presented to residents and guests of the city in a special performance, "Legend of the Riga Key".

Rigans' response was overwhelming, as 52,763 keys were collected altogether for the forging. That is why it was decided that the Key would be placed at the Town Hall building, so any resident could come and inspect it at any time.
