Ivan Mazeppa - the Hetman of the Ukrainian Cossacks, Vasily Kochubey - the extremely wealthy Ukrainian nobleman, and his daughter, Mariya, find themselves amid reckless love, lust for power, political intrigue, bloody crime and cruel punishment.

Kochubey will lose everything in his struggle with Mazeppa - his friend, daughter, wealth, honour and life. "Mazeppa" is directed by Ozren Prohic, one of Croatia's leading directors, who has also staged innovative performances in several European operas and theatres.

"Mazeppa's" libretto is based on "Poltava", a narrative poem by Alexander Pushkin. The opera is staged in cooperation with the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
