Rowing competition in the very city centre proves that Riga is an open-minded, sports-friendly, and active city.
In the Riga Rowing Competition both locals and guests are welcomed to participate. Single and double kneeling canoes and kayaks are for professionals, but the 12 men dragon boat competition is for everyone.
Every year approximately 50 professional rowers take part in the competition. Thanks to its location, the 150 m distance between the Latvian National Opera House and bridge near the Monument of Freedom is popular with rowing fans and spectators.
