On the Eve of the Good Friday, you are welcomed to listen to the St Mark Passion of the outstanding composer J. S. Bach at the very heart of the Old Riga — at St John’s Church. The laconic but nuanced musical story of Jesus will be a pleasant musical adventure just before the Easter.

St Mark Passion on the Eve of the Good Friday will be performed by the Latvian Radio Choir, orchestra Simfonietta Riga, and conductor Sigvards Kļava.

Johan Sebastian Bach’s St Mark Passion is known as a composition that has been reconstructed only to some degree. Nowadays it exists as choruses and arias, therefore in the concert the role of evangelist will be played by Juris Zariņš, the Chief Priest at Riga St John’s Church. The Passion will give a closer look into the service by showing the mysticism of the death on the cross and promises.

Tickets can be purchased at church one hour before the concert.
