Arrival and Departure

Riga can be reached by air, road, rail, and by sea.

By plane

Riga International Airport is located within easy reach of the city centre – just 13 kilometres near. The city centre can be reached from the airport by bus number 22, which runs every 10-30 minutes. The journey takes approximately half an hour. It should be noted that on bus number 22, in contrast to normal Riga public transport rules, it is not necessary to pay extra for baggage.

More detailed information on bus routes and schedules can be found at www.rigassatiksme.lv.

The city centre can be reached even faster by taxi. For example, the journey to Kipsala Exhibition Centre, where all large international exhibitions and conferences take place, takes no more than 20 minutes.

Taxis from the airport can be reserved on “airBaltic” aircraft or through the company’s homepage – www.airbaltic.com. The conditions for transport by taxi from Riga International Airport to the city centre can be found at www.baltictaxi.lv.

Transport by bus to and from the airport is also organised by the hotels “Park Hotel”, Hotel Mara”, “Islande Hotel”, and “Radisson SAS”. Information on fares and departure times should be requested when reserving a room at the chosen hotel. Travel between the airport and the city centre is also provided by the “Airport Express” minibus organised by the airline “airBaltic” (journey fare – three lats, or 4.30 euro).

The airport has its own tourist information centre, as well as a taxi rank.

Information on flights to and from Riga International Airport can be found either on airline homepages, or at the airports own homepage at www.riga-airport.com. Direct flights are available between Riga and 79 destinations around the world. The airport’s information number is 1187 (from Latvia) or +371 29311187 (from abroad). Calls are charged.

Riga International Airport is the largest and most modern international aviation company in the Baltic States, and is the region’s main air transport hub, providing regular passenger flights, as well as cargo and postal transport, to cities in Europe and around the world.

Departure sections “A” and “B” at the airport serve flights to Schengen Area countries, while departure sections “C” and “D” serve flights to all other countries. The airport’s Transit Centre provides passenger and luggage registration services to transit passengers.

By ship and ferry

Passenger ships dock at Riga Passenger Port, approximately one kilometre from the historical centre of Riga, which is very convenient, as from there it is just a ten minute long relaxed stroll to the very centre of Riga. The terminus of the number 7 tram is also very near the port, and the centre is just two stops away. Taxis are also available at the port at ferry arrival times. It should be noted that there are no left-luggage offices at the port.

There is regular passenger traffic between Riga Passenger Port and Stockholm. Information on sailings and ticket reservations can be found at www.tallink.lv or by calling 67099700.

By bus

All long-distance and international bus services arrive and depart from Riga International Bus Station, which is located in the city centre. There is a taxi rank adjacent to the bus station, as well as public transport stops. There is a Tourist Information Centre in the bus station building.

Bus transport operates between Riga International Bus Station and neighbouring countries, as well as with most Scandinavian, Eastern European, Central European, and Western European countries. Information on schedules, ticket prices and booking can be found on the Internet at 1188.lv and www.autoosta.lv, as well as by calling the 1188 information service.

By train

The Central Railway Station is located in the city centre. There are public transport stops and a taxi rank on the square outside the station, and a Tourist Information Centre inside the station building.

Trains run between Riga and the Russian cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Pskov, as well as Valga on the Estonian border. Information on schedules and ticket prices can be found on the Internet at 1188.lv.

By car

Drivers can arrive in Riga with their caravan and park it at campsites both in Riga as well as in the surrounding area. Information on caravanning and camping can be found in Latvian, Russian, English and German on the homepage of the Latvian Camping Association – www.camping.lv.

There are two campsites located just a few minutes drive from the city centre – “Riga Camping” in Kipsala ( www.rigacamping.lv, open from 15 May to 15 September) and the campsite and hotel “ABC” in Pardaugava (www.hotelabc.lv, open year-round).
