Exhibition - Daugava Must Be

The exhibition puts on emphasis on two events, which the Latvian people have in their collective memories about the Daugava River: the struggle of the Latvian people in 1958-1959 to save the Koknese canyon and the Staburags cliff from the construction of the Lenin Hydro-Electric Power plant in Pļaviņas, and the 1986-1987 campaign to rescue the flooding of the Augšdaugava (Upper Daugava) valley with the construction of another hydro-electric power plant in Daugavpils. The exhibition will tell about what was lost when public opinion failed, and what was rescued when it prevailed.
