11th November Embankment stretches along the Daugava River. It is one of the city’s main avenues; however, traffic is suspended here during big festivals and state celebrations, including, Latvia’s Independence Day on November 18 when thousands of people converge here to view impressive fireworks. During Riga Festival, the avenue hosts various events, concerts, and Riga Food Street. At Midsummer’s Night, the area becomes part of Latvia’s countryside, where people celebrate ancient traditions, cheese making, or just enjoy the year’s shortest night.
