A notary public, a state official, witnesses and authenticates various documents or deeds. He/she takes affidavits and statutory declarations, takes acknowledgments of deeds and other conveyances, protest notes and bills of exchange, retains securities or other monetary resources, processes inheritances, etc.
Seek the services of a notary:
-
if an entry in the Land Deed Register is required;
-
if a notary’s authorization is necessary (on transcripts; translations; for validity of signature; verification of civil status);
-
if a letter of authority is required in cases like operating a motor vehicle across Latvia’s border, transport of a minor across borders by an adult guardian other than parent, etc.;
-
if legal documentation is necessary in transfer of moveable property from one owner to another;
-
if you desire to draw up a contract on, for example, purchases, gifts, confiscations, exchanges or other;
-
if authorization is necessary for inheritance rights or legal reneging of inheritance;
-
if you wish to draw up a will and testament;
-
if a subsistence agreement is necessary in cases of transfer of property;
-
if you want an affirmation secured as an act of notarization;
When concluding a real estate property deal, a notary public is not mandatory in Latvia, however, we recommend it for security’s sake.
Notaries have specific fees set in law.
