The exhibition features the stories and fates or four people one hundred years ago and tells about the creation and strengthening of the new Latvian state through the financial, cultural, political, healthcare and social welfare spectrum of the time.
The exhibition is named after Latvian writer Anna Brigadere's poem The Heart of a Hero, where the poem's question is followed by the answer: ''Where will I gain the strength of Latvia? You are the strength if you make it. How will I build Latvia's building? The foundation is in your heart.'' This formula is in place also today - the nation is shaped by each and every one of us. The proclamation of an independent Latvian state on November 18, 1918 was a long cherished dream, but this was just the beginning of a long and complicated path.
