The Catch

Framed by brick walls and graced by ambient lighting it’s a modern take on izakaya, a typical Japanese gastropub that serves dishes that looks more like it should be hanging on a wall than placed on a table and everything tastes sublime.

Ask any local where to capture amazing photos of the sunset and they will point towards Andrejosta – the industrial port area is an oasis of calm. No filter will be needed!

Sitting on the edge of the Centenary Alley, in the summertime this café looks so serene it ought to figure on a postcard. Nab a table on their black wooden terrace and spoil yourself with one of their perfectly looking desserts – it’s almost a shame to disturb it with a dessert fork.

Mangaļsala jetty

On does not necessarily need to go to the West coast to amble on the breakwaters as Mangalsala jetty is just 20-minute drive away from the city centre. The highlight here is the stately red lighthouse at the end of the pier.

Just like the bar’s patrons, it’s dressed in grey tones, but nothing about this place is drab as it has a great list of craft beers, decent coffee, perfectly shaken and stirred cocktails, top-notch pub grub and a terrace that boasts one of the most amazing sunsets in the city.

Central Market

Housed in formidable hangars that once housed German army zeppelins, The Central Market has so many photo-ops it’s almost bewildering – from heaps of fermented goods, to mountains of spices and charismatic stallholders. And once the summer comes, the enormous outdoor area abounds with fresh veggies, fruits and berries.
