It was in Riga, just over 500 years ago, where the first ever Christmas tree was set-up and decorated in market square. In honor of this event, each year Riga becomes the Christmas tree capital of the world - where many different and creative art objects are set-up throughout Kronvalda Park and Old Town. These modern-day Christmas tree surprises with their originality, as well as the variety of materials used, from light installations, to wood, glass, bricks and the use of warmth. The exposition includes the best works by artists, students of the Art Academy as well as other creative professionals.
The art objects are best enjoyed in the evening when the city lights are on.
From the second December all objects can be found on a special festival map that can picked up at one of the Riga Tourism Information Centres.
