The concert program Mendelssohn's Symphonies and Scottish Bagpipes, compiled by Estonian maestro Olari Elts and dedicated to Scotland, promises to be surprisingly spectacular and unusual and will be performed by Sinfonietta Riga with Olari Elts at the conductor's stand.
The concert will feature music from the contemporary Scottish composer Thea Musgrave, fragments from her The Seasons cycle, as well as German Romanticism-era genius Felix Mendelssohn's symphonies - Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11 and Symphony No. 3 in A minor ("Scottish"), Op. 56. Impressive and unusual for the audience will be Peter Maxwell Davies' opus for bagpipes and orchestra called An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise, which is an academic soundtrack and features authentic ethno music elements. The featured soloist of the evening - one of the most renowned Scottish bagpipe musicians - Robert Jordan.
