After opening in the first half of 2020, the Zuzeum Art Centre has been inviting everyone to meet with art in two exhibition halls with a total area of 1,100 square meters, a sculpture garden, a cafe and a roof terrace. The program of exhibitions is regularly complemented by excursions, lectures, meditations, film screenings and evenings with DJs.
Zuzeum is the contribution of art collectors and patrons of art Dina and Jānis Zuzāns to the artistic infrastructure of Latvia and the entire Baltic region. The aim of the institution is popularising Latvian art in an international context, to create space for dialogue and cultural exchange. The museum makes the ever-growing Zuzāns collection available to the general public in a renovated historical industrial building.
Why visit
Zuzeum is the place to go for contemporary Latvian and international art, housed in a beautifully transformed industrial space. It combines a gallery, sculpture garden, café, rooftop terrace, and shop all under one roof, offering art, relaxation, and inspiration. The building’s design, vivid colours, and public spaces invite visitors to linger, engage, and explore beyond just viewing artworks.
Historical highlight
Founded by private collectors, Zuzeum opened to the public in 2020 after converting a cork factory built in 1910 by Edmund von Trompowsky. The transformation preserved the industrial character of the old building while introducing modern gallery halls, flexible venues for events and workshops, and a vibrant public open space including a roof terrace.
How to get there
The Art Centre is centrally located in Riga, right on the edge of the city centre and the Latgale district. Public transport is convenient - several bus and trolleybus stops are a short walk away. If you’re already exploring the centre, it’s also a manageable walk or a quick ride by bicycle or scooter.
