The Latvian women's national team continues its fight for a ticket to the European Championship finals.
In the first round of the 2027 European Championship qualifying tournament in Group B, Latvia, Slovenia, and the Netherlands each have two wins after the first round.
In the first game of the second round, the Latvian team will face Slovenia, to whom they lost 66:77 in Ljubljana in November, despite leading for most of the game.
The Latvian women's national team is ranked 37th in the FIBA rankings (18th in Europe). Since 2005, the Latvian women have played in the European Championship finals nine times and reached the quarterfinals five times (best results: 4th place in 2007, 6th place in 2005 and 2017).
The Slovenian women's national team is ranked 23rd in the FIBA rankings (11th in Europe). Since 2017, Slovenia has regularly qualified for the European Championship finals, but has never reached the quarterfinals (best result: 9th place in 2025).
After the second round of the tournament, the two best teams in the group will qualify for the second round, as well as three of the seven third-placed teams.
