Thanks to the research work of Eduard Cehoval, former director of the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, Knight of the Order of the Three Stars and winner of the Stanislavsky Prize, in Latvian archives and his study of many historical documents previously unknown to the public, a new page has been written in the fragile history of theater arts in Latvia and the entire Baltic region.
The exhibition "Believe in the Corrected" is dedicated to the nearly seventy-year history of the formation and development of Russian theater in Latvia - from the first performances to 1940.
The exhibition is based on extensive research in Latvian archives, which culminated in a sensational discovery. For many decades, October 2, 1883, associated with A. A. Lavrov's production, was considered the official founding date of the Russian theater in Riga. However, new archival documents conclusively prove that the first Russian theater in Riga began operating in 1873, under the leadership of impresario N. I. Ivanov.
This discovery not only clarifies the historical chronology, but also became the ideological basis for the exhibition's title - "Believe in the Corrected", which symbolizes respect for true facts and a living memory of the theater's real history.
