In the dance performance "Made by Person", three dancers confront their instincts and attempts to control them by interacting with weights suspended from the ceiling. It is a human collage expressed through emotions, instincts, and the body's true reactions. The dancers' bodies are provoked and challenged to reveal an unmediated human experience.
At a time when information, texts, and ideas are generated in seconds, "Made by Person" strives to restore the need to pause - to feel, to get to know oneself and those around you anew. From speed, precision and systematicity, there is a shift towards reactions, the body and fragility.
The author and choreographer of the performance, Artūrs Nīgalis, is a dancer and choreographer who represents the seventh generation of Latvian contemporary dance. Artūrs has been working as a professional dancer since 2018 and as a professional choreographer since 2023. The most significant milestones in Artūrs' career are receiving the "Dance Award 2023-2024" in the category "Contemporary Dance Choreographer" as well as becoming the first Latvian choreographer whose work Silhouette Letters has been included in the prestigious international performance network Aerowaves, thus bringing Latvian contemporary dance to the world stage.
