Concert by the youth choir "Kamēr..." entitled "In Two Worlds"

This summer, the youth choir "Kamēr…" embarked on its most ambitious concert tour to date - to Hong Kong and Taiwan, bringing Latvian and European choral music traditions to the other side of the world. In the autumn, the journey will continue in the opposite direction - to Turin, where the choir has been selected as the resident choir for the prestigious international conducting competition "Fosco Corti". Between these two journeys lies the concert "In Two Worlds".

Europe and Asia are two distinct cultural spaces - each with its own history, language, ideas and musical traditions. Their differences need not be smoothed over for them to be able to speak to one another. For beyond the boundaries of culture, language and geography lies something far simpler and more universal - the human being.

"Kamēr…" experienced this time and again this summer: music born here can be understood and felt close to the heart even thousands of kilometres away. Not because the worlds are the same, but because human longing, joy, sorrow, hope, loneliness and the need for light do not belong to any one culture alone. In our different worlds, our emotional vectors nevertheless converge. In the concert programme, this inner human world is revealed through European and Baltic choral music - from sacred silence and prayer to love, longing and light, from the oldest European choral traditions to the voice of contemporary Latvian music.

"In Two Worlds" is a moment between two paths - a look back at Asia before setting off for Turin. And a reminder that the world may be infinitely diverse, but the people within it are surprisingly similar.
