Festival "Porta" - "DakhaBrakha"; Valters Pūce and Dainis Tenis

The evening of the World Music Festival Porta promises to be special - from classic pop hits on cello and piano to the power and depth of Ukrainian music performed by DakhaBrakha. The evening will be opened by the great duo Valters Pūce and Dainis Tenis, but the second part of the evening will feature the ambassadors of free Ukraine - the band DakhaBrakha.

Cellist Valters Pūce and pianist Dainis Tenis' new concert programme Pop Goes Classical offers an exciting journey through 100 years of popular music. Each decade is represented by one hit - from Queen, The Beatles and Nirvana to songs by Adele and Michael Jackson - as well as specially selected Latvian music. All songs have been given a new, classically elegant sound by a duo of cello and piano. The musicians' sophisticated arrangements and academic backgrounds (including the band Dagamba) allow listeners to see the depth of familiar melodies anew.

The second part of the evening will feature the quartet DakhaBrakha, whose performances are a powerhouse of theatre and music - a visually saturated stage performance that combines genre diversity with deep folk roots. DakhaBrakha's unique style is described by the word ethno chaos, which is inspired by expeditions and archival recordings, combining elements from different cultures. They sing in Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar and other traditional languages. Experimenting with Ukrainian folk music, they have added world rhythms, creating a vivid, unique and unforgettable image of a group that introduces listeners to traditional Ukrainian music.
