In 2024, exactly 333 years had passed since a court hearing in the Cēsis region, which took an unexpected turn when one of the witnesses – eighty-year-old Tīss from Kniedini – revealed that he had been a thief for most of his life. To the surprise of the court, most of the local residents were well aware of this. Old Tīss was also well known as a healer and horse whisperer.
Tis' speech reveals a sense of the world that has been lost in our time, in which people were integrated into a wider circle of life. In order to survive, people had to learn to understand and respect the diverse beings and forces of this world as best they could. They considered serving their fellow human beings and God to be their life's work. With the help of music, video, folk songs, and the text of the aforementioned court case, we want to bring Vecais Tīss closer to us in this concert performance.
