Light, sound, video, and laser installations - and this time, a story dedicated to fairy tales, legends and folklore, will welcome every visitor to the Open-Air Museum every evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
In Latvian folk traditions, the season of anecestral spirits is significant - a time to remember and honor ancestors, or previous generations. In the rural calendar, October and early November is the time the ancient Latvians remembered those who have passed away, set out a feast for the dead, and, on dark evenings, venture into the world of riddles and legends.
On these evenings at the museum's Priedes Pub, the hostess, Ilze Briede, will serve seasonal dishes associated with the period of Veļi - rebellious rooster soup with dumplings, a colorful soup called Across the Cellar, ancestral porridge with a mushroom or meat sauce, traditional blood sausage with lingonberry sauce, and braised cabbage with ribs in honey sauce. For dessert, guests can enjoy rye flour and apple puffs and hearty kūčas (grains simmered in syrup with cinnamon), while a hot apple drink will be available to warm you up.
Allow 60-90 minutes to view all the light installations.
