The percussion ensemble Perons Percussion will make its debut at Hanzas Perons, presenting the Latvian premiere of American composer Andy Akiho's monumental work for percussion, Seven Pillars.
Perons Percussion marks a new beginning in Latvia's contemporary music scene. It is an open and experimental percussion ensemble that brings together the most talented percussionists of the new generation. The project serves as a platform for bold ideas and ambitious musical goals. "We are not easing into this — there will be no slow start. We will test the limits of our abilities right away!" says ensemble leader and musician Guntars Freibergs, describing the ensemble's vision.
Andy Akiho's monumental composition Seven Pillars, which many rightly consider one of the most significant and demanding large‑scale works for percussion of recent decades, will be performed by Guntars Freibergs, Edgars Zaurs, Matīss Skarēvičs, Reinis Tomiņš, Arnis Stepiņš, Juris Laizāns, Toms Kozlovs, and Rūdolfs Rocēns.
