In the Latvian seasonal calendar, Miķeļi marks the autumn equinox, when day and night are once again of equal length. In Latvian folklore, the festival is also known as Apjumības, celebrating the completion of the grain harvest. According to ancient belief, Jumis is the spirit of fertility believed to dwell in every grain field. For generations, Jumis has held an important place in the lives of Latvian farmers, inspiring a rich tradition of customs and rituals. One of the most significant is the "Catching Jumis" ritual, performed to ensure fertile fields and an abundant harvest in the year to come.
Visitors are warmly invited to explore the Miķeļi Market, experience ancient harvest traditions, enjoy a hearty autumn harvest soup, and take part in a wide range of activities for both children and adults.
