The group exhibition "Art Deco 2026" will be on display in the Exhibition Hall of the Mencendorf House until the end of September this year. Fourteen female artists are taking part in this splendid and diverse exhibition, showcasing nearly seventy works of art - paintings and decorative pieces - inspired by the dazzling style of the Art Deco era.
The group of artists - like-minded individuals - featured in the exhibition includes professional painters as well as creative personalities who work in various professions on a day-to-day basis. They are united by positive creative energy and a passion for artistic processes and the mysteries of their exploration, expressing the joy of colour and life to themselves and the world. The exhibition features: Tatjana Gurbo, Izolde Segale, Olga Belusa, Irina Šope, Ieva Ērgle, Zoja Roždestvenska, Nataļja Vorobjova, Alesja Kolontaja, Valerija Govorova, Ludmila Vladimirova, Jeļena Moševa, Alla Ņeganova, Larisa Aptere and Ieva Užga.
"Art Deco" embodies luxury, elegance and the dynamism of the era. It organically combines elements of Neoclassicism and Modernism with influences from Cubism, Constructivism, Neo-Gothic and other artistic movements. The style is characterised by a rich colour palette, clear geometric shapes, expressive lines, as well as motifs from Ancient Egypt, Japan and other exotic cultures.
"Art Deco" became the artistic symbol of the so-called Jazz Age, expressing a belief in progress and the future, emphasising a desire for beauty, luxury and freedom, and reflecting the atmosphere of outward glamour, optimism and joie de vivre of its time. The 1920s are referred to as the Jazz Age, a period when this musical genre became popular in the US and Europe, transforming society’s lifestyle in many ways.
