Art installation - Neanderthal Beauty Clinic

The installation explores how beauty treatments have become fast-consumable products and reveals how self-care conceals mechanisms of body control and subjugation.

The installation by Madlen Hirtentreu and Darja Popolitova is an aesthetic laboratory of indeterminate origin. It is part sanctuary, part clinic, displaying medical and cosmetic items-LED masks, syringes, nose-shaping clips, and PE foam finger separators -as well as artifacts and materials derived from animals, silver, charcoal, and stone, from which an attempt is seemingly being made to invent yet another absurd beauty procedure that promises eternal youth. Through these materials, the artists highlight invasive methods and the nearly unattainable standards of beauty and youth.
