The Royal Corgi Walk is dedicated to the memory of Queen Elizabeth II and her love for corgis, while also promoting responsible pet ownership and dog welfare.
At 5:45 p.m., the corgis and their owners will gather in Bastejkalns Park, to the left of the Freedom Monument. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a ceremonial corgi count and group photo, after which Pembroke and Cardigan corgis will set off on an organized walk along the route: Bastejkalns Park - Freedom Monument - Esplanade - Kronvalds Park. At the end of the walk, at 7:00 p.m., a Royal British Tea Picnic will take place.
The event’s patron is Kathy Leach, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Latvia, who will traditionally open the Royal Corgi Walk picnic.
"Seeing nearly 200 Corgis and their owners joyfully gather for this event is truly impressive. I am delighted that this wonderful tradition continues to grow and that the love for this breed, which was so dearly cherished by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, is clearly evident in Latvia," says Kathy Leach, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Latvia.
Well-socialized Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, kept on a short leash that their owners can control, are welcome to join the walk. Each owner is responsible for their dog’s behavior, safety, and keeping the area clean during the event.
