Phil Collins’ songs have been part of the canon of popular music for several decades, both through his solo career and as part of the repertoire of Genesis. In this concert, well-known melodies interpreted by Intars Busulis, Kristīne Prauliņa and the Latvian Radio Big Band will take on new musical nuances and the rich sound characteristic of a big band.
The programme will bring Collins’ distinctive melodic style together with the sound of the Latvian Radio Big Band, its broad palette of wind instruments, the multilayered arrangements of Toms Mikāls and Kārlis Vanags, and the individual musical styles of both soloists. Familiar songs will be heard in a new setting and a different musical language, while retaining the qualities that have made Collins’ music so instantly recognisable.
The world of big band music was no stranger to Phil Collins himself. In the 1990s, he formed the Phil Collins Big Band, performing his own music as well as other legendary jazz compositions in new big band arrangements alongside outstanding jazz musicians. At the Riga Congress Hall, Intars Busulis, Kristīne Prauliņa and the Latvian Radio Big Band will present their own take on the music of Phil Collins.
