Philip Glass Ensemble - Glassworks concert

Philip Glass is one of the most influential American composers and pianists of all time. Although he is considered one of the most prominent founders of minimalism in music, Glass himself refers to his work as “music with variable structures.”

Glass has had a tremendous influence on 20th- and 21st-century academic music, contemporary cinema, and electronic music. The composer is the recipient of several OSCAR, BAFTA, and GRAMMY awards.

In 1968, in New York, the composer founded the Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE) as his own unique musical laboratory.

Over the past half-century, the PGE’s artists have occupied a unique position in music history, and passing on this legacy to audiences is part of the ensemble’s mission. The ensemble educates the next generation of musicians - this is an integral part of the PGE’s work, both through performances around the world and as faculty members at the Philip Glass Institute at The New School.
