A spectacular tribute show dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Depeche Mode’s legendary album Black Celebration. Established in the U.S. in 2010, the project, which has gained widespread recognition in North America, is embarking on its first European concert tour. In Riga, Strangelove will present a spectacular show that will allow audiences to relive the atmosphere of a classic Depeche Mode concert.
Released in 1986, the album Black Celebration became one of Depeche Mode’s most significant works and a major part of the history of electronic and alternative music. Its distinctive blend of dark electronic aesthetics, industrial vibes, and expressive melodies created a sound that continues to resonate with listeners even four decades later.
In Riga, Strangelove will present a program consisting of two full-length sets. The first will be dedicated to Black Celebration: the band will perform tracks from Black Celebration, Stripped, A Question of Time, and other albums, including rarely heard B-sides. The second set will bring together Depeche Mode’s biggest hits and fan favorites from various periods of the band’s career.
The show places special emphasis on its visual elements. The set design, costumes, lighting, and sound bring the 1980s vibe and the atmosphere of Depeche Mode’s grand concerts to life. As the organizers point out, Strangelove’s goal is not merely to perform well-known songs, but to recreate as faithfully as possible the visual imagery, atmosphere, and energy of Depeche Mode’s classic-era concerts.
Strangelove’s lead singer is American musician and actor Leo Luganskiy, who performs as Ultra Dave and sings Dave Gahan’s songs. Leo’s voice, stage presence, and physical resemblance to the Depeche Mode frontman allow him to convincingly capture Dave Gahan’s charisma.
