The first meeting between the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and its Artist-in-Residence for the 101st season, world-renowned organist Iveta Apkalna, will be held on 8 October. Under the baton of maestro Jean-Claude Casadesus, the concert will feature gems of French symphonic music. The programme will open with Berlioz’s spirited overture Le Carnaval romain, followed by Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3, whose score also features an organ part, creating a monumental and colossal sonority. We will also hear the organ brought to life by Iveta Apkalna in Poulenc’s Organ Concerto.
