Music is not just sound – it can be a way of life, a breath, a conversation and the rhythm of the city. Music lives on the streets and in clubs; its rhythm blends with the daily hustle and bustle, and over the centuries, the voices of diverse cultures have created one of the most magnificent and unique traditions in American music – the blues. New Orleans blues is not just a genre – it is a unique way of experiencing the world. It is like a musical crossroads where the emotional depth of the blues meets the freedom of jazz improvisation, the spirituality of gospel, the energy of rhythm and blues and soul, the pulse of funk, and the diversity of Creole music. This diversity has created a sound in which the boundaries between genres almost disappear.
The vocal jazz group ‘Assembly Singers’, known for their spirit of creative exploration and diverse vocal sound, have this time turned their attention to the unique aesthetic of New Orleans or Louisiana music. The singers of “Assembly Singers” will bring to life the unique charm of Louisiana blues together with outstanding musicians: Aleksandrs Tomass Matjussons, who is also the composer and arranger of this programme (piano), Ariana Seviško (guitar, vocals), Pēteris Liepiņš (double bass), Vadim Dmitrijev (trombone), Sandis Skeranskis (trumpet) and Artis Orubu (percussion).
