The concert will feature golden classics of Latvian popular music as well as contemporary compositions, showcasing the diverse musical possibilities of the Latvian traditional music instrument kokle within the genres of pop and rock music.
A repertoire of this content and genre is relatively uncommon among Latvian kokle ensembles, as the instrument’s sound is traditionally associated with academic or ethnographic music. The programme could be described as a unique bridge between musical eras, encouraging listeners to hear the kokle as a fully-fledged, versatile, and contemporary musical instrument.
Compositions by well-known composers, which have already become part of our shared musical memory, will take on new colors, rhythmic accents, and unexpected sonic twists. The sound of the kokle ensemble Cantata will be complemented by vocalist Elīna Krastiņa, guitarist Miks Akots, percussionist Uģis Upenieks, and other musicians, while Raitis Zapackis will weave the concert’s narrative into a unified message.
